i-roundkick

Kicking explosively is very important in a fight.  No amount of good technique is good if your kicks are not fast enough.  And the kicks are not any good if there is no power behind them.  Explosive kicks are designed to bring unpredictability, speed, and devastating power.  The drills in this article will attempt to give you other methods to developing devastating power that will leave your opponent unprepared.

Push Kicks and Power Lunges – Perform ten Push Kicks followed by two Power Lunges using the leg you kicked with.  Then follow with eight kicks and four power lunges.  Continue on even numbers until you have reached two push kicks and ten power lunges.

Push Kicks – 10, 8, 6, 4, 2
Power Lunges – 2, 4, 6, 8, 10

Round Kicks and Power Squats – Using the same methodology as the above drill, you will perform ten round kicks followed by two power squats.  Then follow with eight kicks and four power squats.  Continue on even numbers until you reach two round kicks and ten power squats.

Round Kicks – 10, 8, 6, 4, 2
Squat Jumps – 2, 4, 6, 8, 10

Side Kicks and Squat Jumps – Perform ten sidekicks followed by two squat jumps.  Then follow with eight kicks and four squat jumps.  Continue on even numbers until you reach two sidekicks and ten squat jumps.

Side Kicks – 10, 8, 6, 4, 2
Squat Jumps – 2, 4, 6, 8, 10

Body Shield Resistance – Push Kick, Side Kick – Put your back against the wall while a partner holds a body shield against your foot.  Your partner will apply resistance as you slowly push your kick out.  Focus on performing ten repetitions for each leg and each kick.

Slow Kicks – This one has been tested and proven to be one of the best tools in martial arts. Slow kicks help develop leg strength, balance, control, and technique just to name a few. Perform ten slow kicks for the front kick, round kick, and side kick.

These drills will hopefully help you develop more explosive kicks giving you an advantage over your opponent.  Stay tuned to drills that will help develop fast and explosive boxing technique.
