A Warrior’s Courage

A Warrior’s Courage

Courage is one of the many characteristics of a warrior.  Warriors in the Bible were men of courage, women as well.  Courage is what helps drive the warrior to victory when all sees overwhelming.
One of David’s Mighty Men, Eleazar, was definitely one of those men.  This guy was against a power Philistine army and odds were not in his favor as far as numbers go, but he was courageous to stand up to them anyway.  Look at 2 Samuel 23:9-10:
Next to him was Eleazar son of Dodai the Ahohite.  As one of the three mighty men, he was with David when they taunted the Philistines gathered at Pas Dammim for battle.  Then the men of Israel retreated, but he stood his ground and struck down the Philistines till his hand grew tired and frozed to the sword.  The Lord brought about a great victory that day.  The troops returned to Eleazar, but only to strip the dead.
The Lord used this guy in great ways!  Eleazar had such great faith in the Lord that he was able to defeat an enemy much greater than himself.  In our current day, we thankfully do not have to fight against armies that clearly outnumber us, but our individual circumstances can seem just as overwhelming.  It takes courage to come face to face with them, but always know there is victory just on the other side when you put your faith and hope in the Lord who will give you strength to stand your ground and win the war you face.
