The Only Way

The Only Way

John 14:6 – Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one can come to the Father except through me.”
A friend of mine had asked me if being a good person could earn their way to heaven.  This is a good question; can good works be a way to salvation?  The answer is no.
First, what standard are we to meet to be considered good enough?  Our standard would be God since being with Him for eternity would be our desired outcome.  Our good works could never measure up because we are filled with sin.  Our good works could never outweigh our sinfulness.
Only perfection, free of sin could be the bridge that gaps us to God.  His name is Jesus Christ.  He is the one who saved us through His sinless life, sacrificial death He did not deserve, and His victory over death and sin.
However, if our good works or any other option were available, what would be the point to send God’s only Son to the cross, suffer a horrific death and be placed with the burden of our sin if we had other options?  We would not give our lives for someone else is there were better alternatives.
One of Satan’s many tactics is to lie.  He is the father of lies.  One way he has lied to the masses is by telling us that we are ultimately good and that God will forgive us because of that goodness.  Many people have fallen for this lie, and suffered the consequences in this life and the next.
Please do not be fooled.  If you ever hear someone tell you that you are good enough to get to heaven that should raise a red flag.  Christ is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one can enter heaven and God’s presence any other way.
