Devotional of the Day – Matthew 7:21-23

Devotional of the Day – Matthew 7:21-23

Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.  Many will say to me on that day, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?”  Then I will tell them plainly, “I never knew you.  Away from me, you evildoers!” Matthew 7:21-23
This section of scripture always puts me on edge.  It compels me to evaluate my walk with the Lord.  What is the will of the Father?  If you notice in the verses that those who were called evil doers talked about works such as prophesying, casting out demons, etc.  Jesus is not impressed.  He can do them with His eyes closed.  The will of the Father is to place their faith and trust in His Son, Jesus Christ, and to turn away from our sinful nature, or repentance.
