Greed’s Cost

Greed’s Cost

Ephesians 5:5-6 – You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God.  For a greedy person is really an idolater who worships the things of this world.  Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the terrible anger of God comes upon all who disobey Him. (NLT)
Greed is an ugly characteristic that most of us share.  It is very similar to selfishness, but greed is willing to go too far to get what it wants.  Greed will destroy everything and anyone in its path.
We need to be very careful that we do not become greedy.  It will destroy the relationships around us, and hurt the people we love the most.  Greed is demanding, and it exploits the innocents.  God hates it as He hates all sin, but the fact that He mentions it with the immoral sins that do not inherit the Kingdom of God should cause us alarm.
When we find sin like this in our own lives, we must not excuse it, but expose it for what it truly is.  We need to repent of it so that we may be free from what it truly does; enslave.  Greed tells us that we can have everything and will be truly happy.  But the truth of the matter is, greed has a very ugly side we do not see at first.
But for believers in Christ and those who choose to come to Him by faith, we do not have to be permanently chained to greed.  If we repent of our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us because of the work of Jesus Christ.
