So, if you’ve been following, we’ve been covering spiritual warfare. One of the key biblical passages on that subject is in Ephesians, and in large part references a defensive posture – wherein victory is characterized as “withstand[ing]” in “the evil day”. And that’s great! But I wanted to look at some aggressive tactics and strategies as well. Approaches to spiritual warfare that can do more than take a beating and still stand victoriously unmoved, but also dish out a beating to the forces of darkness.
Acts 16:23-26 “And when they had inflicted many blows upon them, they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep them safely. Having received this order, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks. About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were unfastened.”
Make no mistake, Paul and Silas were stuck in prison, having themselves been beaten and thrown into the dungeon, and when they worshipped there was an earthquake and the doors of the jail blew open. I’m going to say it again. They worshipped. Could it be brothers, that our worship, that our love of God, love of our neighbor, love of our family wages divine war against the unholy hordes of hell that seek to consume us and our families?
Let’s just meditate on the implications here. Idolatry is false worship, and is abominable to God. Could it be, the enemy can’t stand for God to be worshipped, worshipped with sincerity and aware intentionality (John 4:23)?
Now, I am by no means guaranteeing that worshipping God will get you out of a jamb, or ‘cause earthquakes. That’s God’s business. But. If it pleases the Father, and it confounds the enemy, shouldn’t that be our business?
Go confound the enemy. Please God. Worship. Wage war.
