1 Peter 3:7 – In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat her with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. If you don’t treat her as you should, your prayers will not be answered.
The wedding and the honeymoon are the most exciting events in marriage. Women look forward to their dream wedding, and men look forward to be with his bride on the honeymoon. But as with any marriage the reality of the couple’s significant differences sink in quite quickly. It is no wonder that the wedding vows are serious about commitment and that they get straight to the point. Every marriage will face trials of insurmountable proportions, but God expects us to commit and hold to those vows.
As a husband, there are moments in my marriage that I feel like an utter failure. I miss the mark of understanding my wife and forget what my role is in marriage. I am prone to look at everything with my own perspective which greatly distorts what God intended for me to see. God wants us to see that He created us with certain strengths and weaknesses. He wired us so differently because when brought together correctly, we get a glimpse of the beauty and glory of God.
Husbands have a huge responsibility to love and understand his wife, to care and provide for her. It is a task we must face more enthusiastically more than a Sunday football game, hobbies, or outside interests. We must learn to lay down our own desires to meet the needs of the woman we love and cherish. We need to learn how to communicate effectively with our wives so that she will know she is loved and understood.
There is a reason why God designed marriage and created it till death us do part. Marriage will expose our constant failures and shortcomings. It will take the rest of our lifetime to grow and change so that one day we might finally become who God has called us to be.Tags: bible, failure, honor, husbands, lifetime, love, Marriage, shortcomings, understanding, Wife
