1 Timothy 4:8 – Physical exercise has some value, but spiritual exercise is much more important, for it promises a reward in both this life and the next. (NLT)
New technologies are being presented to us almost on a daily basis to make our lives easier. We all have a remote control to turn on our television from the comfort of our couch, and most of us have a dishwasher to wash our dishes for us. Though these things are meant to help us become more efficient, they have as a result made us lazy. Because of our natural gravitation towards laziness, a lot of us turn towards exercise.
Exercise can be a good thing for us. It conditions our bodies to be strong and healthy. Exercise helps prevent injury and unhealthy illness. For fighters, exercise is a way of life. Unfortunately, physical exercise does not make us invincible, nor does it prevent us from death. Athletic individuals have died from heart attacks and some from cancer anyway. There is an exercise much more valuable than physical fitness that not only helps us in this life, but also in the next.
Exercising our spirit is vital to our lives every day as well as our eternal destination. Studying the Word of God, praying daily, and fellowshipping with other Christians are valuable methods to exercising our faith. If we do not, we naturally tend to drift towards apathy, and we begin to drift away from Christ who saved us from our sin.Tags: 1 Timothy 4:8, bible verse, devotional for men, devotionals for me, devotionals for teens
