Training for War

i-war

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 – We use God’s mighty weapons, not mere worldly weapons, to knock down the Devil’s strongholds.  With these weapons we break down every proud argument that keeps people from knowing God.  With these weapons we conquer their rebellious ideas, and we teach them to obey Christ.

When we choose to become new believers in Christ, we are a new creation, and heirs to the Kingdom of God.  We are saved from the bondage and death of our sin, and we are free.  However, when we become Christians, we are entering a world of spiritual warfare that we do not see.  It is then Satan puts a target on our backs and then tries to take us out.

Identifying the Enemy’s Strategy

In order to thwart the plans of our enemies, we need to know their strategies.  What do they use against us to bring us into submission or defeat?  One thing that can work against us is our fallen nature.  While we are in this world, our earthly body and our spirit will be in conflict.

We will be tempted in our weakness, by doing what the world wants instead of what God requires.  When we succumb to our own fallen nature, we can easily be tempted to sin, such as lying or stealing from others.  We may even be tempted to do something immoral which can lead to our destruction.

Our weaknesses do have a way of neutralizing us, but so can our strengths.  Have you ever done something so great, and now you feel like you are something special?  Like an army’s fortress secured by the strongest walls, it can still be toppled if there are no watchmen overseeing it.  Strength in our own abilities can blind us and then we become blind to Satan’s attacks.  He uses this strategy to his advantage very effectively.

In Christ, we have one who has been tempted and tried, only to be found perfect.  In Him, we are given the power to resist evil in all of its forms.  God gives us the tools and weapons so that we can wage war against Satan’s evil plan.  As we grow in our journey with Christ by reading and obeying His Word, we become better prepared and more equipped to resist Satan and his futile plans.  Besides, Satan already lost the war at the cross of Calvary.  We just need to remind him from time to time.
